Currently March

I haven't done one of these in ages! Not because I am tired of them but because I've been so stinkin' busy I always forget. :( I used to be on top of it.

Listening--> Criminal Minds--Netflix recommended it and there are like 8 seasons for me to binge watch! (currently season 3)

Loving-->2hr delay call--I'm VERY thankful to have this phone call the night before and not at 5:30am when I struggle to go back to sleep. We got a bunch of snow last night so I'm hoping for a safe trip....just 2hrs later.

Thinking-->I'm hungry!! (I have a candy-baresque protein bar calling my name...I hear it now telling me to type quicker!)

Wanting-->What I'd really love is to sit down with a jar of almost butter (or any nut butter really) and a spoon. This has proven unhelpful to my weight loss endeavors though....a healthy fat is still a fat and needs to be in moderation....or whatever

Needing-->Haha, willpower to not eat the aforementioned almond butter (it was ON SALE & I had a coupon...I **had** to buy it)

Spring Break Plans-->Sigh....I know I do not want to be home and bored. I am looking at plane tickets to Florida. I hate not having a plan.

Elf on the Shelf--St. Patty's Day Style

Each year on St. Patrick's Day (at least the last couple of years that I've been at my current school) a leprechaun comes into our room....either before school or during recess. Oddly it depends on how late Miss Cosby slept and how much prep she had to do during lunch. Weird how that works.

Anywho.

The leprechaun would play tricks or mess up our room. He has been known to tip a desk over, put chairs on desks, "turn" the toilet and sink water green, and all other kinds of mischievous things.

Well, this year St. Patrick's Day is on a Sunday..and I'm a little bummed. I decided to have our old friend visit us the whole week! I kinda dropped the ball today because this was only an idea I had...but the more I thought about it the more I liked it.

I'm thinking of calling it Leprechaun at Dawn or something like that....kinda like Elf on the Shelf. He comes, he's fun, he's full of antics. I'll see how it goes over this year and if it goes well I'll come up with more clever ideas. I might even invest in a little leprechaun doll...as long as it's not creepy looking.

Tomorrow he's going to leave this note introducing himself and the kiddos are going to find all of our green coloring tools missing!

This week he will also steal a chair, turn our water green, and put all the chairs in our rooms in a crazy place. On Friday...or Monday since it's the day after St. Patrick's Day I have a little scavenger hunt to find his gold. That poem is at school though so I can't share it now. It's Friday again and you know what that means! #5ForFriday

Here's a snapshot of my week.

1. Dr. Seuss Projects
My co-teacher and I decided to do Dr. Seuss stuff this week. Each year I have the kiddos do a project about their favorite Dr. Seuss book and bring it in and share it with the class. I will say that Pinterest provided more edible projects this year than normal.

I think they turned out great!

2. The forecast for Monday night/Tuesday morning was supposed to produce snow...I was hoping for a 2hr delay...no such luck. Well, the forecast for Tuesday night/Wednesday morning said about the same thing but a little worse. Tuesday afternoon on my way home I got caught in the beginning of the flurries...we got the call that night that there was going to be a 2hr delay. #Score

Then the next morning around 7 I get a call that said two of my favorite words....#SnowDay

This is my car the day after our snow day...I didn't exactly want to go out and clean my car off on a snow day so this was my procrastination present...it's more than it looks. 

3. Well, it was Dr. Seuss week and I found this great lesson/craftivity last year 

It's by Erica over at Erica Bohrer's First Grade. It's no longer available due to strict Seuss copyright laws.

I never really did much with this book but I really liked it and the discussion that came with it was great. 

4. ISTEP week

This week was ISTEP (one of our standardized tests for our state)

5. What would Seuss week be without Green Eggs & Ham?!

I'll admit it looks totally gross. I buy the diced ham and I heat it in the pan while I'm cracking and scrambling eggs. Then, I pour the eggs over the ham and scramble. Voila! We made predictions about who would and wouldn't like it. This year only one kid said that they wouldn't like it. I was surprised...and the kid that said he didn't think he'd like them really did. :)

That's an overview of my week...well at least the interesting parts. Our school laminator is broken...and it died in the middle of laminating my March Math centers...so some were ruined and I have a few that survived. So, I may take them to the local teacher store to get finished....

I was so excited for these! :/

March has been meh. Busy couple of weeks coming up. Here's a freebie from my packet. It's a "Roll and Cover".  Since it's mid year I've made it with numbers that require 3 dice.

Marching into Math

I'm still adjusting to my Mac...and yes so far all of the Mac enthusiasts that commented have been right! I really really like it. I'm figuring our shortcuts and things are coming naturally to me.

This Friday marks March 1st and my firsties are showing such growth. I finished my middle of the year math and reading assessments and I saw such growth.

I am trying some new things this year (Daily 5...though I really only do Daily 3 or 4) and I'm doing more engaging centers. Not just buying them from a company that thinks they know where my kiddos should be.

Anywho. Based on what my kids enjoy doing during center time, what we've learned, where we're going, and what they need to work on I created these 8 March Math Centers. Presenting: "Marching into Math"

I'm now happy to present one of the first items I created using my Mac. (Hmm...I don't think I like calling it a Mac or Macbook...I think she needs a name...)

1. Number Bonds
Students will write the missing part or missing whole of each equation. Students will have to use missing addend and missing whole properties.
(with recording sheet)

2. Number Patterns
Stack the ice cream scoops to complete a number pattern
(with follow-up worksheet)

3.Sorting true and false addition and subtraction number sentences
(with follow-up worksheet)

4. Concentration--Matching Game
Match the addition and subtraction problems to their answers
(May be played individually or with a partner)
(with number bond recording sheet)

5.Fact Families
Given three numbers the students need to generate the four members of a fact family

6. Money
Matching the coins to their total value
(with assessment worksheet)

7. 10s Frames
Count the total number of items in the tens frames and match them with their number representation

8. Roll and Cover
3 roll and cover pages that require 3 dice
