Throwback Thursday

Today I'll be linking up with Cara over at The First Grade Parade. She has such a great idea to get the blog ideas flowing. You find an old post (maybe it was real popular, maybe there's a freebie, maybe you were a newbie and not a lot of people saw it, maybe you just plain like it)

Last summer I really picked up blogging steam. For a few weeks in a row (before 5 for Friday took over my blogging Fridays) I'd blog about some of my favorite pins.

Here's my Throwback for Thursday!

**Click link to go to source of pin**
1. Using Unifix cubes to teach coin value
Such a neat visual and kiddos should be able to count by 5s by the time you introduce money.

2. Sight Word Uno
I love all things Uno! This was great. To beat it all, it's FREE!

3. Flip Chute!!!
This is so neat you really need to watch the video to understand. Soooo many possibilities.

4. Labeling your stuff!
Every year I have my teacher supplies for the kiddos to borrow. They're kept in a special place and I often spend the time to write BC somewhere on the item. We all know that that Sharpie does eventually wipe off though...sigh. So not only does that happen but there will be those times that the kiddos get out their crayon box and you revert to being a 7yr old and in your head you say, "Hey, those are my scissors!" Well, why not use some jazzy duct tape. No disputing that.

(I had pink duct tape on all of my dry erase markers, glue sticks, and scissors---it was bright pink so I knew who exactly had my materials and maybe needed to clean our their desk or get a note sent home about stocking supplies--2013)

5. Teacher Tipster.com---Chart Folders
These are so neat. I really hope you've checked out his videos. He has tons of ideas, especially if you're into musical teaching or attention grabbing strategies. Ever hear, "What do we do when we're done?" Well here's one idea you copy some things for the kiddos to work on...like math facts, handwriting, connect-the-dots, spelling, etch. You slide it into a sheet protector and put it in their binder (I use math binders so it'll be easy for me to integrate) and Poof! instant stuff to do when they're done.

Just Pinning It...

Friday already!!! Nooo...I only have one more week of waking up when I want, watching daytime tv, grocery shopping midday, and staying up late. Oh, and I guess one more week of using my time pinning away.

Here are 5 of my favorite pins I found this week.

1. Chalkboard Sign Printables for K-12
example of image from pdf

Great printable for beginning of school photos

There are copies of K-12 and I think it will be the cutest prop for the "First Day of School" photo.
It's a pdf file and contains all grade levels.

2. This is a neat thing if your Meet the Teacher/Open House/Back to School Night is before school starts. Have the parents fill it out so you know how each student is getting home.

3. Candy Land Sight Word Edition...Awesome!

Candy Land+Sight Words=Awesome
I repinned this picture and it's sourced back to a blog but no link on where to get the labels for the words...I searched TpT. Click here to see my results.

4 An app that tells you the AR level of a book (source: itunes)
**disclaimer** I do not own this (yet) I will totally purchase this when they update it to include a scanning book option. Awesome idea!!

5.General Labels with pictures
I had a request for my labels with pictures. I think this is such a great idea for kindergarten but I don't have classroom supply clip art yet. I did find these and you can bet I pinned them asap! (and they're free!!!)

As always permission to pin.

Just Pinning It...

Drumroll Please....
Here are this week's favorite pins (okay, some are from a while ago but I really like them)

1. Q-Tip Painting a number onto a tens frame
I love this because I can make the tens frames and assign any number to represent. It'll keep the kiddos engaged and active...who doesn't love paint?

2.  Dry erase stained teeth
Laminate teeth and 'decay' them up with dry erase markers. Give the kiddos toothbrushes to scrub away. Good dental health month activity

3. Number recognition (1-20)
These are from a cool kindergarten blog. Hopefully my first know and recognize these numbers (hopefully) but at the very least this should make for some good seat work at the beginning of first grade (click here for direct download and save yourself some hunting )

4.  Smiley Sentence visual rubric
This is a great visual for the kids to see. That way when I edit or go over work with them and they only receive a partial smiley they'll know what's missing.

5. Missing Parts Bucket
I know I'm not the only one that has finished a lesson and the accompanied clean-up only to be interrupted in my next lesson by a sweetie just trying to be helpful by blurting out that they found dice, chips, crayons, cubes, etc. No need to interrupt sweet helper. Just put it in the missing parts bucket and I'll deal with it later.

Just Pinning It...

Happy Friday! Here is my weekly "Just Pinning It"

1. Anecdotal Note Taking
Clip a sheet of address labels to a clipboard and write notes throughout the day on the labels. At the end of the day add the label to a students anecdotal notes folder/index card/record etc. This is awesome because I reallllllly try to remember these things but never remember them all at the end of the day. You can date them or color code them and save them for their records or for parent conference.

2. Bulletin Board Background
This year I was going to switch to fabric for a bulletin board of mine. Some of it is kinda costly. I saw this nifty pin about using a cheap flat bed sheet. I plan on making a trip to Walmart and scoping out the color selection!

3.Slap It! Word Game
Use Word Wall Words (or spelling or vocab words or dolch words or fry words). Have kids cut them out and put them on their desks. The teacher calls out a word and the first kiddo to slap it gets that word. Good word work practice.

4.Word Work Freebie (original pin)
These are "I can" cards for word work. Cute. Free. Printable
(original source found here)

5.Tagxedo
www.tagxedo.com

Similar to Wordle but way more options! I think it'd be neat to type in my class list and make one with my kiddos' names

Similar to Wordle, only with more options. http://www.tagxedo.com/

Just Pinning It

Not quite sure if I'll turn this into a weekly thing but I was Pinning(v.)  today. I've actually not been on Pinterest in over a week. Not sure if you believe me or not but there were actually no withdrawal symptoms. I'm shocked, too.

So, here are a few of my most recent pins.
