It all started on Monday evening. I was driving and I just got a feeling. I got a feeling I was getting something...something I'd had before but was still a surprise nonetheless. (lol, no not preggers)

The next morning I woke up and I was sure of it! That feeling you get when you see or feel it. It was pink and I couldn't keep my hands off it!

I had pink-eye. My coworkers consoled me by telling me "At least it's your favorite color." :/
This meant throwing out a good tube of mascara, a trip to the express clinic, eye drops (I hate drops!), and a week with my old glasses because my contacts were infected. Ick. Ick. Ick.
There was an upside later in the week. I love my kiddos. |
Anywho. Back to the onion in question.
We have a first year teacher in our building this year. (Don't you remember the happiness and stress that go hand-in-hand that first year!?) In an impressed kind of way, because I was impressed. Well, we were in the teacher's lounge and I commented how unusually healthy she'd been for her first year. I mean my first year I had regular colds and strep really badly once with a high fever. Even this year I'm fighting sinus infections left and right and most recently the pink-eye.
She said that she has an onion in her room. An onion! (unpeeled) She said during student teaching she was getting a lot of colds and someone told her put an onion in the room and it 'absorbs the bacteria'. Okay, not her exact words but something with absorbing. I think this sounds like one of those weird Old Wives Tales that tells pregnant people to dangle a ring, catching a cold with wet hair, and other things my mom would say that would raise my eyebrows.
I googled it. I mean, I google everything why not this.
The first post I came to had some validity...
I'm tired of being sick. Tired of students being sick (I feel so bad for D, I swear he's gone through a box of tissues all on his own!), and tired of trying to keep up with make-up work.
I'm going to the store tomorrow, and though I detest onions, I'm going to try it. What's the harm?
Have you heard of this? Anyone up for the onion challenge with me?

It sounds crazy, but I am going to give it a try! Thanks for sharing!

I never heard about it to collect bacteria! BUT, I did know that they are nasty little boogers and you shouldn't keep them in our fridge once they are cut. Bummer, because we use onions in EVERYTHING.
I've never heard that before, but since you don't have to cut it open for it to work, what's the harm in trying it. I may have to give it a try myself. I've had a lot of little sickies lately.

Found you through a post connected to a post through Farley's Currently :) I must follow you...Love your stories. And this onion thing...I know onions are powerful so this can't be that farfetched right? And like another commenter said, since it's unpeeled there's no harm. I must try this now!
